The Scan FFP2 Moulded Disposable Dust Masks are lightweight particulate respirators designed to provide respiratory protection against suitable airborne dust, fine particles and mists during construction, woodworking, maintenance and DIY tasks.

Featuring a moulded filtering facepiece construction, these disposable masks are designed to cover the nose, mouth and chin, helping reduce exposure to airborne particles when correctly fitted.

The respirators incorporate elasticated retaining straps, an adjustable nose clip and a soft foam nosepiece to help provide a comfortable, secure fit. A non-irritating inner facepiece offers additional comfort during use.

Specified as conforming to EN149:2001+A1:2009, the masks have an FFP2 respiratory protection classification, providing a minimum tested filtration efficiency of 94% against the specified test aerosols.

Potential applications include appropriately assessed hand sanding, woodworking, construction maintenance and other dust-generating activities where FFP2 protection is sufficient.

Important: FFP2 masks are not suitable for every respiratory hazard. Tasks involving high concentrations of hazardous dust, respirable crystalline silica or certain fibres may require higher-rated protection and additional dust-control measures.

FFP2 Particulate Respiratory Protection

The Scan FFP2 Moulded Dust Masks are classified as FFP2 filtering facepiece respirators.

FFP2 is the intermediate protection class under EN149, offering higher tested filtration performance than FFP1.

Under the standard, FFP2 respirators must achieve a minimum 94% filtration efficiency against specified laboratory test aerosols.

This does not mean that every wearer will experience an exact 94% reduction in airborne exposure.

Actual protection depends on the respirator's fit, facial seal, correct selection, wearing time and working conditions.

In UK workplace guidance, correctly selected and fitted FFP2 respirators are generally associated with an assigned protection factor (APF) of 10.

Important: FFP2 respirators filter suitable airborne particles. They do not provide protection against gases, solvent vapours or oxygen-deficient atmospheres.

Moulded Filtering Facepiece Construction

The Scan Moulded FFP2 Masks feature a shaped construction made from the filtering material itself.

Unlike fold-flat respirators, the moulded design provides a pre-formed shape intended to fit over the nose, mouth and chin.

The lightweight construction offers a practical disposable solution without separate filter cartridges.

A correctly fitted respirator must maintain an effective seal around the face to provide its intended protection.

Adjustable Nose Clip for a Secure Fit

Each mask features an adjustable nose clip.

This allows the upper section of the respirator to be shaped around the bridge of the nose.

Correct adjustment helps reduce gaps where unfiltered air could enter.

The nose clip should be fitted according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Soft Foam Nosepiece

The masks incorporate a soft foam nosepiece designed to improve comfort.

The foam cushions the contact area around the nose and helps support a more comfortable fit.

Combined with the adjustable nose clip, it makes the respirator suitable for appropriately assessed tasks where protection is required for extended periods.

However, the foam does not guarantee an effective seal for every wearer.

Elasticated Retaining Straps

The Scan FFP2 Disposable Masks feature elasticated retaining straps designed to keep the respirator securely positioned.

Correct strap placement is essential for maintaining the intended facial seal.

Always follow the manufacturer's fitting instructions.

Do not modify the straps or wear them in a way that compromises the mask's fit.

Non-Irritating Inner Facepiece

The masks incorporate a non-irritating inner facepiece intended to improve wearing comfort.

This is particularly useful during tasks involving repeated movement or extended periods of respiratory protection.

The moulded construction, soft foam nosepiece and elasticated straps work together to provide a practical, comfortable design.

If the mask causes irritation or cannot be fitted securely, select a suitable alternative.

Suitable for Woodworking & Hand Sanding

The Scan FFP2 Moulded Masks may be suitable for certain woodworking and sanding tasks where a risk assessment confirms that FFP2 protection is adequate.

Potential applications include:

  • Suitable hand-sanding operations

  • General woodworking maintenance

  • Certain wood and MDF handling tasks

  • Selected workshop activities

  • Appropriate DIY projects

Important: Wood and MDF dust can be hazardous, particularly when fine airborne particles are generated. Use effective dust extraction and appropriate work methods alongside suitable respiratory protection.

Construction, Masonry & Plaster Work

The supplied product information identifies applications involving:

  • Brick dust

  • Concrete dust

  • Plaster dust

  • Masonry work

  • Certain metalworking tasks

  • Loft insulation

These materials can present different respiratory hazards depending on the activity.

For example, cutting, grinding or drilling brick and concrete can generate respirable crystalline silica, which presents a serious long-term health risk.

Certain metalworking operations may produce hazardous airborne particles, while insulation materials can release dust or fibres.

Important: FFP2 must not be assumed sufficient for every brick, concrete, masonry, metalworking or insulation task. Follow a suitable exposure assessment and use higher-rated protection where required.

These masks are not intended for welding.

Understanding FFP1, FFP2 & FFP3

EN149 defines three main classes of filtering facepiece respirators.

Respirator Class Minimum Filter Efficiency Typical UK Assigned Protection Factor
FFP1 80% 4
FFP2 94% 10
FFP3 99% 20

These filtration efficiencies are based on standardised laboratory testing.

Assigned protection factors depend on correct respirator selection, fitting and use.

FFP1 – Basic Particulate Protection

FFP1 respirators provide the lowest EN149 protection class.

They may be suitable for certain low-level particulate hazards.

FFP2 – Higher Particulate Protection

FFP2 respirators provide increased tested filtration performance and may be suitable for appropriately assessed fine dust and particulate exposures.

FFP3 – Highest Filtering Facepiece Class

FFP3 respirators provide the highest tested filtration performance among EN149 filtering facepiece classifications.

They are often selected for more hazardous particulate exposures, subject to the workplace risk assessment.

Important: FFP protection classes are not defined by fixed particle-size ranges such as larger than 5 microns, between 2 and 5 microns or smaller than 2 microns.

The correct protection level depends on the substance, exposure concentration and required protection factor.

EN149:2001+A1:2009 Standard

The Scan FFP2 Moulded Disposable Masks are specified as conforming to EN149:2001+A1:2009.

EN149 covers filtering half masks designed to protect against airborne particles.

The standard includes requirements relating to:

  • Filtration performance

  • Breathing resistance

  • Inward leakage

  • Practical performance

  • Product markings and information

The supplied specification confirms the FFP2 classification but does not identify additional markings such as NR, R or D.

Check the manufacturer's current product packaging and declaration of conformity for the complete certification details.

How to Fit Scan FFP2 Moulded Masks

Correct fitting is essential for effective respiratory protection.

  1. Inspect the respirator before use.

  2. Position the moulded mask over the nose, mouth and chin.

  3. Secure the elasticated retaining straps according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  4. Adjust the nose clip around the bridge of the nose.

  5. Check that the mask sits securely against the face.

  6. Perform the manufacturer's recommended user seal check.

  7. Reposition or replace the respirator if an adequate seal cannot be achieved.

For workplace use, tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment generally requires a suitable face-fit test for the individual wearer.

Important: Facial hair in the sealing area can prevent an effective seal and reduce protection.

Disposable & Single-Shift Use

The supplied instructions state that the masks should be disposed of after each period of work or an eight-hour shift.

Replace the mask sooner if it becomes:

  • Damaged

  • Wet or heavily soiled

  • Difficult to breathe through

  • Contaminated

  • Unable to maintain a secure fit

The eight-hour period is not a guarantee that the mask will remain suitable for an entire shift under all conditions.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and workplace respiratory protection procedures.

Respiratory Safety Precautions

These masks are intended for particulate respiratory protection within their stated FFP2 classification.

They are not suitable for protection against:

  • Toxic gases

  • Solvent vapours

  • Carbon monoxide

  • Oxygen-deficient atmospheres

  • Unknown airborne contaminants

  • Hazards requiring protection beyond FFP2 capability

  • Welding operations without specific suitability confirmation

  • Environments requiring air-supplied breathing apparatus

For hazardous dust-generating tasks, effective extraction, ventilation and other suitable controls should be used alongside correctly selected respiratory protection.
