Heavy-Duty Cow Split Leather Construction
The Scan Heavy-Duty Rigger Gloves are manufactured using robust cow split leather.
Cow split leather is widely used in industrial handling gloves because of its durability and suitability for work involving rough materials.
The tough leather construction makes these gloves a practical choice for tasks where ordinary lightweight gloves may wear quickly.
Their traditional rigger design is particularly suited to appropriately assessed manual handling applications.
Double-Stitched Reinforced Palm
A standout feature of these gloves is the double-stitched green split leather reinforced palm.
The palm is one of the highest-wear areas of a work glove, particularly during lifting, carrying and gripping tasks.
The additional leather reinforcement helps improve durability in this frequently used area.
Double stitching provides further reinforcement to the construction, helping the gloves withstand regular manual handling.
This makes the Scan Heavy-Duty Rigger Gloves particularly useful when working with rough or abrasive materials.
Reinforced Thumb & Fully Wrapped Index Finger
The gloves feature additional reinforcement around the thumb and index finger.
The thumb is reinforced with green split leather, while the index finger is fully wrapped for increased coverage.
These areas are frequently exposed to friction when gripping tools, carrying materials or handling equipment.
The reinforced construction helps protect these high-contact areas against everyday wear.
Reinforced Fingertips
The Scan Heavy-Duty Leather Gloves incorporate reinforced fingertips.
Fingertips are particularly vulnerable to wear during repetitive handling and gripping tasks.
The additional reinforcement helps improve durability where frequent contact with materials occurs.
This feature is useful for construction, maintenance and general industrial handling applications.
Protective Knuckle Strap
The gloves include a reinforced knuckle strap.
This provides an additional protective layer across the back of the knuckle area.
The knuckle strap is a traditional feature of rigger gloves and contributes to their robust construction.
Important: The presence of a knuckle strap does not establish certified impact protection. No separate impact protection rating has been supplied.
Red Fabric Back with Elasticated Braid
The gloves feature a distinctive red fabric back with elasticated braid.
The fabric back provides a more flexible construction than an entirely leather glove, helping support normal hand movement during handling tasks.
The elasticated braid helps the gloves fit securely around the hand.
This combination offers a practical balance between reinforced leather protection and everyday wearing comfort.
7cm Rubberised Cuffs
The Scan Heavy-Duty Rigger Gloves incorporate 7cm rubberised cuffs.
These provide additional coverage around the wrist area and contribute to the traditional heavy-duty rigger glove design.
The cuffs help maintain the glove's shape and provide a convenient opening for putting the gloves on and taking them off.
Important: The rubberised cuffs do not make the gloves waterproof, chemical-resistant or suitable for immersion in liquids.
EN388 Mechanical Protection Rating – 3-2-4-4
The Scan Heavy-Duty Rigger Gloves have a stated EN388 mechanical protection rating of 3244.
This four-digit rating identifies performance under the traditional EN388 test format.
| Protection Category | Performance Level | Rating Scale |
|---|---|---|
| Abrasion Resistance | 3 | 1–4 |
| Blade Cut Resistance | 2 | 1–5 |
| Tear Resistance | 4 | 1–4 |
| Puncture Resistance | 4 | 1–4 |
Abrasion Resistance – Level 3
The gloves achieve a stated Level 3 abrasion resistance rating.
This indicates a substantial level of resistance to surface wear under the applicable test conditions.
It is useful for tasks involving repeated contact with rough materials.
Blade Cut Resistance – Level 2
The gloves have a stated Level 2 blade cut resistance rating.
This provides a defined level of cut resistance under the traditional EN388 blade cut test.
However, these gloves should not be assumed suitable for significant blade hazards or specialist sharp-edge handling.
Tear Resistance – Level 4
The gloves achieve Level 4 tear resistance, the highest performance level on the supplied four-level scale.
This makes them particularly relevant to demanding handling tasks where glove materials may be subjected to pulling and tearing forces.
Puncture Resistance – Level 4
The gloves also achieve Level 4 puncture resistance, the highest rating on the supplied four-level scale.
This indicates strong resistance to the specified puncture test under controlled conditions.
Important: EN388 puncture testing does not establish protection against hypodermic needles or every sharp object. The gloves are not puncture-proof.
Stated Conformity to EN420 & EN388
The Scan Heavy-Duty Rigger Gloves are specified as conforming to:
-
EN420: General requirements for protective gloves.
-
EN388: Protective gloves against mechanical risks.
EN420 has been superseded by EN ISO 21420, and EN388 has been updated over time.
The supplied 3244 rating follows the traditional four-digit EN388 marking format.
The exact edition of EN388 and any additional markings required under newer editions have not been supplied.
For workplace PPE selection, check the manufacturer's current product label and declaration of conformity.

Always assess the specific hazards before selecting protective gloves.
Comfort & Practical Fit
Despite their heavy-duty construction, the gloves incorporate several features intended to improve everyday comfort.
The fabric back provides flexibility, while the elasticated braid helps maintain a secure fit.
The 7cm rubberised cuffs provide additional wrist coverage, and the reinforced leather areas are positioned where durability is especially important.
Selecting the correct glove size helps maintain safe grip, comfort and hand movement.
Care & Maintenance
To help maintain the condition of the Scan Heavy-Duty Rigger Gloves:
-
Inspect the gloves before each use.
-
Check the leather for tears, holes and excessive wear.
