The Scan Tapered Foam Ear Plugs are soft, comfortable hearing protectors designed to reduce exposure to unwanted and potentially harmful noise in suitable work and everyday environments.

Manufactured from soft, energy-absorbing polymer foam, these ear plugs compress for easy insertion before gradually expanding to fit the ear canal, helping create an effective seal for noise reduction.

Featuring a tapered design, the Scan Foam Ear Plugs are designed for straightforward insertion and removal while providing practical hearing protection for a range of applications.

With a Single Number Rating (SNR) of 33dB, these ear plugs offer a high stated level of sound attenuation when correctly fitted and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

The pack contains 6 pairs of foam ear plugs, supplied in 3 resealable containers, with 2 pairs in each container. This convenient packaging makes it easy to keep spare ear plugs organised and protected between uses.

The Scan Tapered Foam Ear Plugs are specified as conforming to EN352-2:2002, a European standard for ear-plug hearing protectors.

Whether you're working in a noisy workshop, carrying out DIY projects or using suitable power tools, these Scan SNR 33dB Foam Ear Plugs provide a compact and convenient hearing protection solution.

SNR 33dB Hearing Protection

The Scan Tapered Foam Ear Plugs have a stated Single Number Rating (SNR) of 33dB.

SNR is a standardised measure used to describe the overall sound attenuation performance of hearing protection under specified test conditions.

An SNR rating of 33dB indicates substantial potential noise reduction when the ear plugs are correctly fitted.

However, the rating should not be interpreted as a guaranteed reduction of exactly 33dB in every situation.

Actual protection depends on several factors, including:

  • Correct insertion

  • Ear canal fit

  • Noise frequency and intensity

  • Wearing time

  • Condition of the ear plugs

  • Consistent use during noise exposure

For workplace applications, hearing protection should be selected according to a suitable noise assessment.

Soft Energy-Absorbing Polymer Foam

The ear plugs are manufactured from soft, energy-absorbing polymer foam.

This material is designed to compress before insertion and expand once positioned inside the ear canal.

As the foam expands, it helps form a seal that reduces the amount of sound reaching the eardrum.

The soft construction is intended to provide a comfortable fit when the ear plugs are correctly inserted.

Tapered Design for Easy Insertion

The Scan Foam Ear Plugs feature a tapered profile designed to make insertion straightforward.

The compressible foam allows the ear plug to be rolled into a narrower shape before being placed in the ear canal.

Once inserted, the foam gradually expands to fit the available space.

Correct insertion is essential because a poorly fitted ear plug may provide substantially less noise protection than its stated SNR rating.

Comfortable Expanding Foam Fit

The expanding foam construction allows the ear plugs to adapt to the shape of the ear canal.

This helps create a secure fit without the bulk of over-ear hearing protectors.

The compact in-ear design may be particularly convenient for users who prefer foam ear plugs to earmuffs.

Comfort and effectiveness vary between individuals, so the ear plugs must be checked for a suitable fit.

Noise Reduction While Maintaining Aural Awareness

The Scan Tapered Foam Ear Plugs are designed to reduce sound levels reaching the eardrum while potentially allowing some surrounding sounds to remain audible.

This can be useful where general environmental awareness is important.

However, hearing protection can affect the ability to hear speech, warning signals and approaching vehicles.

Important: Do not assume that conversations, alarms or other warning sounds will remain audible while wearing ear plugs. Any workplace communication and warning requirements must be considered when selecting hearing protection.

6 Pairs in 3 Resealable Containers

The Scan Tapered Foam Ear Plugs are supplied in a convenient multipack containing:

  • 6 pairs of foam ear plugs

  • 3 resealable storage containers

  • 2 pairs per container

The resealable containers make it easier to keep unused ear plugs organised and protected from dust and dirt.

The compact packaging is useful for keeping spare hearing protection in a toolbox, work bag or other suitable storage location.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding hygiene, reuse and replacement.

Ideal for DIY, Workshop & General Noise Protection

The Scan SNR 33dB Ear Plugs are suitable for a variety of situations where a noise assessment confirms that the stated attenuation is appropriate.

Potential applications include:

  • General DIY projects

  • Workshop activities

  • Woodworking

  • Suitable power tool use

  • Building maintenance

  • Garage work

  • General construction activities

  • Other appropriately assessed noisy environments

The required level of hearing protection depends on the noise exposure and the task being performed.

For specialised or particularly hazardous noise environments, additional assessment and different hearing protection may be necessary.

EN352-2:2002 Hearing Protection Standard

The Scan Tapered Foam Ear Plugs are specified as conforming to EN352-2:2002.

EN352-2 covers requirements for ear-plug hearing protectors.

The stated 2002 edition is an older version of the standard, and later editions have been published.

Important: Conformity to EN352-2:2002 should not automatically be interpreted as certification to a newer edition. Check the current product markings, user instructions and declaration of conformity where current PPE certification is required.

How to Insert Foam Ear Plugs

Correct insertion is essential to achieve effective noise attenuation.

  1. Clean your hands. Handle ear plugs with clean, dry hands.

  2. Compress the foam. Roll one ear plug gently between your fingers into a narrow shape.

  3. Position the ear. Reach over your head with the opposite hand and gently pull the top of your ear upwards and backwards.

  4. Insert the ear plug. Carefully place the compressed plug into the ear canal, following the manufacturer's instructions.

  5. Allow the foam to expand. Hold the ear plug in place briefly while it expands.

  6. Check the fit. Ensure the plug feels secure and that noise is noticeably reduced.

  7. Repeat for the other ear. Both ears must be properly protected where hearing protection is required.

Never force an ear plug painfully into the ear canal.

How to Remove Foam Ear Plugs

To remove the ear plugs:

  1. Gently twist the ear plug to help release the seal.

  2. Slowly withdraw it from the ear canal.

  3. Inspect the ear plug for dirt or damage.

  4. Dispose of or replace it according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Avoid pulling an ear plug out abruptly, as this may cause discomfort.

Ear Plug Hygiene & Storage

To help maintain comfort and hygiene:

  • Handle ear plugs with clean hands.

  • Keep unused plugs in their resealable containers.

  • Do not use visibly dirty or damaged ear plugs.

  • Avoid sharing used ear plugs.

  • Replace plugs that no longer expand or fit correctly.

  • Follow the manufacturer's guidance on reuse and disposal.

  • Store the containers in a clean, dry location.

Important: The supplied information does not specify whether these ear plugs are approved for repeated use. Do not assume that the resealable containers make used plugs suitable for reuse.

Why Choose Scan Tapered Foam Ear Plugs?

The Scan Tapered Foam Ear Plugs combine a soft, expanding foam construction with a convenient compact design.

Their SNR 33dB rating provides a useful attenuation value for selecting hearing protection, while the tapered shape helps make insertion straightforward.

The energy-absorbing polymer foam compresses for fitting and expands to help seal the ear canal.

With 6 pairs supplied in 3 resealable containers, the pack also offers practical storage for spare ear plugs.

For DIY enthusiasts, workshop users and tradespeople requiring appropriately selected in-ear hearing protection, these Scan Foam Ear Plugs provide a convenient option.
