White Spirit for Thinning Paint

Bartoline White Spirit can be used as a thinner for compatible solvent and oil-based paints.

Adding the appropriate amount of white spirit can adjust the paint's consistency for specific applications while, when used correctly, not adversely affecting its drying time.

Always check the paint manufacturer's instructions before thinning, as the correct thinner and dilution ratio vary between coatings.

Paint Brush Cleaner

Paint left inside a brush can quickly harden and make the tool difficult or impossible to reuse.

Bartoline White Spirit is an effective brush cleaner for compatible solvent and alkyd-based paints, helping dissolve residual paint from the bristles after decorating.

Cleaning brushes promptly after use can help maintain their condition and extend their useful life.

Paint Tool Cleaner

As well as brushes, Bartoline White Spirit can be useful for cleaning compatible decorating tools and equipment contaminated with suitable solvent-based paint.

This makes it a practical product for professional decorators, tradespeople and DIY users who regularly work with traditional solvent-based coatings.

Paint Spill Cleaner

Bartoline White Spirit can help remove compatible fresh paint spills and splashes before they fully dry.

Always check the affected surface for solvent compatibility first. Some plastics, coatings, painted surfaces and other finishes may be damaged or discoloured by strong solvents.

Removes Grease & Grime

White spirit is also an effective solvent for grease and oily grime, making Bartoline White Spirit useful for appropriate general-purpose cleaning jobs around workshops, garages and other work areas.

Because it is a solvent rather than an everyday household cleaner, it should only be used on suitable materials and with appropriate ventilation and safety precautions.

Professional & DIY Use

The large 4-litre format makes Bartoline White Spirit suitable for a broad range of users, including:

• Professional painters and decorators

• Tradespeople

• Property maintenance teams

• Workshops

• DIY decorators

• Home improvement projects

Its combination of paint thinning and cleaning applications makes it a useful multi-purpose decorating solvent.

4 Litre Container

Bartoline White Spirit is supplied in a generous 4-litre container, making it particularly suitable for larger decorating jobs or users who regularly require white spirit.

The container includes an integrated handle for easier carrying and pouring, together with a screw cap for secure closure and storage.

Meets BS 245 Requirements

Bartoline White Spirit meets the requirements of BS 245, providing a recognised specification for this type of product.

White Spirit vs Water for Cleaning Paint Brushes

The correct cleaning method depends on the type of paint being used.

Water-based paints: Brushes are generally cleaned using water according to the paint manufacturer's instructions.

Solvent/oil-based paints: An appropriate solvent such as white spirit may be required.

Bartoline White Spirit is particularly suitable for cleaning tools and brushes used with compatible alkyd, oil and solvent-based paints.

Always check the paint label before selecting a cleaning solvent.

How to Use for Thinning Paint

• Check that the paint manufacturer recommends white spirit as a suitable thinner.

• Work in a well-ventilated area.

• Add only the amount required according to the paint manufacturer's dilution instructions.

• Mix the paint and white spirit thoroughly.

• Avoid excessive thinning, as this can affect the coating's performance.

• Keep the container securely closed when not in use.

• Always follow the paint manufacturer's instructions alongside Bartoline's directions.

How to Use for Cleaning Brushes & Tools

• Remove as much excess paint as possible from the brush or tool first.
